Do It Yourself - Lawn Care Program |
| With these 4 simple steps you will be well on your way to a beautiful lawn. |
| |
Step 1 - Measure your lawn
In order to apply the correct amount of fertilizer,
you must know how much area to fertilize. Specify
the dimensions in feet or metres.
FOR RECTANGULAR LAWNS: Measure the length and multiply
by the width to calculate the total square area of your lawn.
FOR IRREGULAR SHAPED LAWNS: If your property is pie-shaped
or resembles more of a triangle than a square simply
take the largest width and multiply by the longest length and divide
by two. |

Step 3 -
Acquire Soil Sample
Collect a total
of 4 soil samples; 2 from the main sections of your
front yard and 2 from the main sections of your backyard.
Using a garden trowel, cut out a 3 to 4 inch patch
(7.5 to 10 cm) and remove grass. Dig down to a depth
of approximately 3 to 4 inches (7.5 to 10 cm), remove
soil (approximately 1/2 cup and place it in a clean
pail. Repeat for 3 other areas of your lawn. N.B.:
Do NOT take samples from the edges of your lawn
(by driveways, sidewalks and from dark patches) as
these areas are not representative of your main lawn.
Mix all four collected samples in the pail with a
trowel or by hand.
Transfer mixed soil sample to bag provided (FILL
BAG HALF FULL). Return excess soil back to lawn.
Enclose bag in self-addressed box, seal and mail. |
